Week of 13MAY - 17MAY

Hello everyone!

This week is a fun one!

8th Graders are at CIMI, but some couldn't go. Those who are remaining behind will be tasked with a simple reading assignment where they are to read during class, mark how many pages each day, and we'll be compiling the information at the end to determine what our real-life average reading speed is!

7B and 6A are reviewing for their final exam. Please note that there is not study guide for the final exam. Instead they should be writing down what's done in class each day, and using that as a guide for what they should be studying for their final exam.

Next week is finals on Monday and Tuesday with Monday being ELA and Social Studies and Tuesday being Math and Science. The final exams will be proctored in the students' home room class.

It's been a wonderful year and we're ALMOST done! Don't falter on the last mile and as always...

Week of 5-6

Hello everyone!

This week marks the end of new material, and the start of the end of the year.

6A and 7B will be working on some special projects in the form of Investigations. The investigations come in two parts: Formal Report and Presentation. The presentation is 100% optional, and is graded as extra credit. The Formal Report which must include all questions, activities, and "Formulate" portions will be turned in for a test grade.

8A is looking at their Finals this week, with Science and Social Studies on Monday, ELA on Tuesday, Science on Wednesday, and Math on Thursday.

There is no homework for anyone this week, but we do have the Investigation project for 6A and 7B.

Week of 4-22

Hello all!

Next week is another fun filled week with a few lessons as we quickly approach the end of the school year.

Monday is a Teacher Work day, and the end of the Quarter! Be prepared for report cards soon thereafter.

Tuesday we're back to work with the following homework assignment Schedule!

6A/7B
T: Lesson 113 #'s 1-25
W: Lesson 114 #'s 1-25
Th: Lesson 115 #'s 1-25
F: Test CT22

8A:

T: Silver Lesson 54 #'s 1-25
W: Blue Lesson 103 #'s 1-25
Th: Silver Lesson 55 #'s 1-25
F: Blue Lesson 104 #'s 1-25

After next week we'll be super close to finals. 8th graders will be prepping for finals right after lessons 55 and 105, while 7th and 8th will have one more week of instruction (116, 117, 118, 119, 120).

We're super close, but remember, it's the last mile of the marathon that's the hardest. Don't lose sight of your goals, and keep working!

Once more into the breach

We're BACK!

Well, back to "normal" for the next few weeks anyhow. This means back to lessons every day, back to study islands on double-days, and back to homework every night save Fridays! Normally we'd have to have some double lessons, but because we went over lessons during AZMerit week we don't have to!

We only have 4 weeks (3 weeks for 8th grade) of lessons left, then we'll have 1 week of study for the final exams, 1 week of finals, and the final week were we take care of administrative problems (Book returns, locker clean-up, locker checkout, missing tests etc.). Please remember to stay focused! It's always the last mile of the marathon that's the most difficult. The same can be said for school.

This week for 7B/6A we'll be going over lesson 105, 106, 107, and 108, and ending the week with a test over the lessons we've done.

So the breakdown would look something like this:

7B/6A
Monday: Lesson 105 #1-25
Tuesday: 105 is due, Lesson 106 # 1-25
Wednesday: 106 is due, Lesson 107 #1-25
Thursday: 107 is due, Lesson 108 #1-25
Friday: Test

For 8A things are a little different.

Monday: Lesson 52(Silver) #1-25
Tuesday: Lesson 101(Blue) #1-25
Wednesday: Lesson 53(Silver) #1-25
Thursday: Test
Friday: 52/101 due, Lesson 102(Blue) #1-25

Remember, tests on Thursdays instead of Fridays as we need the double period to go over everything.

Here's hoping for a smooth transition back into the swing of things!

Hail Weeks! (Lots of hail, and other little spheres of ice falling from the heavens!)

Welcome back from Spring Break!

I know it's been a while, but here's an update on what we've been, are, and will be doing.

The week before Spring Break we were doing diagnostics and reviewing for the upcoming AZ Merit. We focused on the most missed portions of the benchmark exam and the associated standards.

This week we're taking a diagnostic test based on the Study Island End of Course assessment based on AZ Merit standards for each grade level. Once done, we'll go over each question in detail as well as ideas on pacing and "Tricks of the Trade" for improving standardized test scores.
Next week (01APR2019 to 05APR2019) we will be taking the AZ Merit tests as well as examining methods for improving standardized test scores.

After these two "Hell Week"s are done we'll continue with our normal curriculum until the last 3 weeks of the school year, where we'll prep for the final exams in a similar fashion.

So we're very quickly approaching the end of the school year. It looks like we only have 3 weeks of actual classes remaining, and the rest are test prep & testing.

Thank you all so much for all the support this year! It makes teaching a joy!

Last week before Spring Break: AZMerit Prep and Study Islands

Hello!

It's been a couple of (VERY intense) weeks, but I wanted to get everyone up to speed on the events and changes at AMS.

AZMerit starts the 1st week of April, and so for the next few (3) weeks we'll be working on getting our students prepared for the state exam. Our normal curriculum is put on pause (not paws!) for the time being as we shore up any deficiencies they have in the state's standards.

This doesn't mean they get a free ride at home though. We have a SLEW of new Study Island assignments which are targeting the standards they've been scoring low in. Their homework should be to finish at least 1 Study Island assignment per night. In class we're doing drills and practice sessions on the various areas we're weakest in.

So while the homework section might be empty, they still have Study Islands to get done.

Thanks for all the support!

DFTBA!

Troubles come not single fold, but in battallion

Hello everyone!

My apologies for not getting this up earlier this week, but as the title says, we've had a few troubles.

Last week my family came down with the flu, with my wife and I being the last two to succumb to the disease. I ended up becoming too sick to teach by Thursday of last week, and ended up missing two days.

This week we had Monday of for MLK day, then we had competitions on Tuesday and Wednesday with the Math League. We did really well with 40% of our 6th graders moving on to the regional competition which is to take place in the San Francisco Bay area sometime in April! The 7th and 8th didn't fare as well, but did finish 5th out of the 17 teams.

However this means I haven't been in my classroom for a week! So here was the breakdown of this week, and the week to come!

Please note that if your student is part of the Math League Teams, ensure they have their permission slip signed and turned in as soon as possible. Also make sure to send them with a little bit of cash in case we need to have lunch out or make a stop for ice cream...

Welcome Back from Winter Break!

Welcome back!

Today has been an awesome day! We hit the ground running and are back into the swing of things and will cruise our way to Spring Break!

As a reminder, school rules are going to be strictly enforced including:

-No opaque water bottles. All water bottles MUST be clear.
-No going to lockers between classes. This will result in a lunch detention
-Non-uniform outer garments MUST be placed in lockers at the start of the day. If anyone is wearing a non-uniform outer-garment they will be given a lunch detention.

For 7B and 6A:

This week we'll be going over Lessons 68, 69, 70, and Investigation 7. Homework will be as follows:

Tuesday: Lesson 69 #'s 1-25
Wednesday: Lesson 70 #'s 1-25
Thursday: Investigation 7 (all problems + tasks)
Friday: None! (We'll be taking CT14)

For 8A Silver + Blue:

Blue Team:
Wednesday: Lesson 90 1- 30
Friday: Test

Silver Team:
Tuesday: Lesson 40 1-30
Thursday: Investigation 4
Friday: Test

Otherwise I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Vacation! I will remember this as the Christmas my family ended up almost getting trapped on Mt. Lemmon due to a snowstorm! SNOWSTORM... in AIRIZONA! I was shocked.

Anyway, thanks to all the people on the road coming together to help each other out we were able to evacuate the majority of the cars before the snow accumulated too much. It's amazing what can happen when people come together and share their knowledge and strengths to get through a crisis.

Anyway, I'm certain everyone has a fun story about the break! I just hope we can all learn from them.
