Happy Thanksgiving Week!

Hello 8A!

This week we'll be starting off with a rehash of the benchmark test on Monday (19NOV).

Tuesday will be a Blue day going over Lesson 83 with homework being 1-30.

Wednesday will be a Silver day going over Lesson 33 with homework being 1-30.

I don't expect students to do homework over Thanksgiving break! It's time to be thankful, not time to be doing more work. There's a time for work and a time for rest. When it's time to work we work. When it time for rest we rest.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break!

Oh, and the one thing I'm really thankful for? Being able to walk.

The Week of DOOM!... I mean... WEEK OF TESTING!

Happy Tuesday!

Today we did test reviews in preparation for our Week of DOOM... er... I mean... Week of Testing!

This week we'll be taking the Benchmark Test on Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday being a Test Make-up Day. I'll have extra copies of all the tests we've taken in the quarter so those that wish to re-take may, and those who haven't finished will have 1-2 class periods to finish. Then they'll be graded.

As such, homework for this week is:
STUDY
STUDY
STUDY!

Next week we'll be looking into some alternatives to assist our students since grades for the last pair of tests have been so low.
Thank you all, and DFTBA!

8A 18OCT2018

Today was a great day!

The last week has been a difficult transition for some of us going from having almost two weeks off to being back in the full swing of a super-fast paced school environment. Fortunately we've weathered the worst of it and after tomorrow get a couple more days off.

We finished up lesson 76 for the Blue team today, and both Silver and Blue will be working on a test tomorrow. So make sure everyone gets enough rest!

Fall Break!

Friday! The beginning of 10 days off from school!

Enjoy your fall break! We'll worry about things when you get back.
It's always super important to take time to rest and recharge.

Right now I'm seeing fatigue in everyone around me, and feel it myself. These breaks are needed to increase overall learning, so please take advantage of the break! Go enjoy some sunlight, or watch a sunrise, or go on a hike or to the lizzard extravaganza this weekend.

DO NOT worry about school (at least not my classes) until you get back. Take a break.

Change to Tests

Hello everyone,

In an effort to streamline the test-taking process I will no longer be giving students an indeterminate amount of time for their assessments. We will now have tests that are not finished in class due before the end of the next school day.

This means that if a test is started on Thursday, then it must be finished by Friday at 5pm. If a test is started on Friday, then it must be finished by Monday at 5pm. If that Monday is not a school day, the test is then due by the end of the day (5pm) on Tuesday. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.

This is to help students get faster feedback on tests as I don't have to keep the graded tests from the students until the last test is finished.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Welcome!

Hello, and Welcome to the Academy of Math and Science! I'm Mr. O'Neil and I'll be the 8A/7B/6A math teacher.

We will be using the Saxon curriculum throughout the year, with additional "tricks" being taught by an instructor who knows what it's like to struggle with math.

I hope we all have a wonderful year filled with learning, and laughter.
