Description
In this class students will build their foundational writing skills. As they expand their repertoire of writing techniques students will apply them to larger prompts, and journal entries. This will be done by using the Write Source composition curriculum.

Midterm Writing Prompt
Some of our richest experiences take place when we travel.
Write about a memorable experience you had when you were traveling, or create a fictional narrative about a trip to an interesting place in the world that you want to visit.

Read The News ELA Opinion Article - "Lowering the Voting Age will Help Establish Good Habits in Teens" . Complete the multiple choice questions on the back of the second page. Then, using a topic sentence that states your opinion, choose whether or not you agree with the author's opinion.  Explain your answer using details from the article.

Write Source: Compound Sentence Review
Write 10 different compound sentences, and practice each of the different common conjunctions. (and, or, but, so)

Read your NewsELA article and create an acronym that summarizes the central idea and supporting details of the article in your own words. (Review example in notes for help.)

Write an expository paragraph explaining how to make your favorite food. Please include transition words, and at least 2 compound sentences.
