6B - Science Assignments

Homework for 4/6/2020:

 

Look at the file titled  Mon 04 05 Citing references in science writing pdf  in my posts. Once you have reviewed this, complete the assignment in the presentation: write your 2 citations in an email and send them to me at [email protected]. 

 

Also: You need to have completed signing up for Google Classroom by Monday,  April 13th. After that date, work will only be handed out in packets and posted to Google Classroom. Good luck, and let me know how I can help!

This assignment is to watch two videos, and take notes you will be using next week for another project.

The Solar System was formed when a cloud of gas floating in space was compressed, or squeezed together, possibly by the explosion of a star. Remember: Gravity is a force that attracts every object or matter towards other objects or matter. Because things with more mass have a stronger force of gravity, the parts of the cloud that got compressed pulled more gas in towards the center... oooh, sorry. Spoilers. As you watch the videos, I want you keep notes using the Google Form called "Video Notes- Formation of the Solar System" (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdzjU2D4guv5YcG71vuH9jG7EBv2AMHN6ZnlilOZwPOnOFZBw/viewform?authuser=1) and submit the answers. Do a good job: Next week, you'll be using those answers to do a poster project.

Your assignment next Monday will be to create a Google Slide presentation using the notes from today's videos and some images and ideas I'll supply.)

Objective- Students will identify the source of material that was used in the creation of the Solar System, and be able to explain what ignited the Sun and started that process.
Arizona State Standard 6.E2U1.7 - Use ratios and proportions to analyze and interpret data related to scale, properties, and relationships among objects in our solar system.

Study Island: Effect of Earth's Tilt.

 - Complete by start of class on Monday, March 9th: Last grade for the 3rd quarter.

 - NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED: Must be completed on time or it will go down as a zero, since the grades will be locked after.

 - Read the lesson, review the flash cards, complete the practice questions with a score of 70 or above. Must be done in order.

Science Current Event, due 3/2. Students who have completed all their homework assignments so far this semester are exempt from the assignment- this gives everyone else a chance to build up their average by turning in a great paper! The form for the Current Event is attached to the assignment if you need it. As always, if you have any problems, contact me at school or on Class Dojo. 

Rescheduled Quiz: Intro to Earth Science. Will cover:

 - Sources of fresh water, water on Earth

 - Surface water, ground water, water table

 - Fahrenheit & Celsius on a thermometer

 - Methods of heat transfer

 - Definitions of mass, volume, density, heat, temperature

Adopt An Element Report cubes due today! Oral reports will begin at the start of class.

Report Cubes are Due- Oral reports begin! Unless it's your birthday. Then you can turn it in tomorrow. And if you're the first person from each class to tell me privately before class that you saw this note, you can pass on your oral presentation until the next day.

Review your science notebook 10 minutes every school night.

Parents must sign the student's Report Cube assignment sheet. Students must also have completed their research for their reports AND THEIR WORK REVIEWED BY ME by the start of class on Monday 10/28.

Quiz Friday! But it's all good - Students should be reviewing their science notebook for 10 minutes a night every school day, so they should be current. 

Study Island: States of Matter, due Monday 10/21 by the start of class. Start with the lesson, go through the flash cards, then answer the practice questions. If you don't have internet access at home, see me for a hard copy to complete the assignment.

Science Current Event due. Use Science Current Event graphic organizer to complete. Use online source, magazine, or newspaper only. No encyclopedias.

Study Island assignment: Potential Energy. Complete the lesson, then the flash cards, then answer the Practice questions with a score of 70 or higher.

Science Current Event due at beginning of class. Only assignments on the form handed out in class will be accepted.

Study Island/ Force at a Distance. Required: Complete lesson, then Flash Cards, then 7/10 on Practice questions. Due Monday, 9/23.

Rescheduled test: Measurement & units, Scientific Method, all Study Island topics, and all areas covered since beginning of year.
