Kindergarten OpenCourt Assignments

Students had reading buddies today and worked on their long u sound. They are to read their decodable at home.

Students worked on their long u sound and proper nouns. They are to complete the proper noun handout where they rewrite the sentence for number 3 with the name capitalized, then for number 4 they will write their own sentence using a name with a capital letter.

Students worked on long u and reviewed their vowels. They are to read one of the decodables at home and point out the vowel sounds.

Students worked on their long u sound and manipulating first sounds in words. They are to read their decodable from Friday, An Old Flag, and point out the sight words as well as the long vowel words.

Students reviewed blending and letter sounds, they are to pick a book and read at home.

Students worked on their long O sound today and are to practice reading their decodable from Friday "Mike and Spike".

Students review verbs and their long i sound. They are to complete the fill in the blank sentences for verbs.

Students reviewed their long /i/ sound and verb tenses (present and past). They sorted verbs into present and past tense. They will pick two past and two present tense words. On the back of their handout, they are to write one sentence for each of the words, a total of four sentences.
Students will present their sentences tomorrow. We could not today because not enough completed it. I marked it in my book and sent the sentences home. Please make sure they complete this part tonight.

Students worked on their long i sound and verbs. They have a present and past tense sort we completed. Students will pick two present and two past tense words to write sentences with on the back. Choose two words and create one sentence for each of them on the back of the sort to share tomorrow.

Students worked on their new sound for long /i/. On Friday they received a new decodable "Jake Plants Grapes", have them read it at home to you and practice blending.

Students worked on adding 10 to numbers and are to complete their Facts 91B and Homework 91B.

Students worked on reading and their comprehension, so have them pick one of their decodable books to reread tonight.

Students worked on sounding out words and the long a sound. They are to complete their CVC handout where they read the word, draw a line to the matching picture, then write out the word.

Students worked on their letter sounds for Q, Y, V, and short E. They also practiced identifying the main idea and detail. Students are to reread the Ocean Animal handout, review the main idea (we circled it), and review the details (we underlined them).

Students reviewed their letter sounds for W, K, and short E. Have them read one of their decodables at home, then point out as many words with those sounds!

Students learned the sound for V. They are to practice reading their decodable "Quin and the Jets" for homework.

Students took a lesson assessment, learned the new hf words 'what' and 'her', so they are to read "Quin and the Jets". We sounded out new words as a class, have them practice at home.

Students reviewed their letter Qq sound, /kw/. Please have students reread their decodables at home tonight.

Students worked on a new letter today, Qq which makes the /kw/ sound. They have a phonics handout to complete.

Students worked on the short E letter sound and to complete their short E handout.

Students took an assessment and learned two new high frequency words look and with. They are to reread their decodable "Kim and Sam", then complete the CVC spelling handout.

Students reviewed their letter sound /w/ for Ww. They are to complete their beginning and ending sound handout.

Students learn a new letter sounds /k/ for the letter Kk! See how many words your student can come up with having the sound. See if they can even find them in books!

Students reviewed their letter sound /w/. They are to practice reading their decodable "Liz and Tad". The more they read it the more fluent they will become.

Students took a unit assessment today and learned a new high frequency word 'all', then read our new decodable "Liz and Tad". They are to read it at home and after reading it a few times, can color it to make it their own. Please sign the cover so we know it was read.

Students reviewed their letter sounds for /X/, /Z/, and /U/. We worked on blending to read simple CVC words. At home tonight have students practice reading simple CVC words such as fox, hut, zip, zap, ax, and nut.

Students reviewed the sounds /J/, /F/, and /U/ in words. Read to them and have them identify words with those letter sounds in them.

Students took an assessment today and to master the X and U sound, they are to complete the handout. On the handout they are to fill in the missing sounds, the circle the pictures with a /u/ sound one on side, and on the other side words ending with x.

Students reviewed their letter sounds and are to complete the handout to help differentiate between the /g/ and /j/ sound. They are to complete then bring it in tomorrow for a class review.

In Reading and ELA we learned a new letter sound for X which goes /ks/ and is usually at the end of a word. We also talked about sequencing and compare/contrasting. For homework have them sing along with you to the rhyme "The Wheels On The Bus" and sequence the events (or place in occurring order) on the handout. Below are the lyrics to the rhyme!

Students complete an assessment today in reading and learned a new high frequency word 'for'. Tonight, please read to them or with them for 20 minutes.

Students read a realistic fiction story entitled "Pass It Down" about the tradition of the pinata! We wrote a complete sentence focusing on the nouns, verbs, and spacing. In their folders they are to create an illustration matching the sentence.

They also learned a new letter sound /Jj/ and are to find at least four items with that sound, write them down, and to read for 20 minutes tonight.

Students completed an Unit Assessment and are to be read to for 20 minutes tonight.

Students reviewed letter sounds and high frequency words. Please read with your students for 20 minutes tonight to help with comprehension.

Students are to write these three high frequency words into complete sentences on a piece of paper:

Students completed their assessment today so they have a sentence review worksheet. It is about question sentences (interrogative) and telling sentences (declarative). They will have to put the correct ending punctuation.

Students reviewed their letter sounds for A, D, and P so they are to complete the letter sound handout. They also worked on reading their decodable "We Carry" in small groups and are to read it tonight.

Students worked on the letter Aa and it's sound. They are to complete the letter A handout.

Students took an assessment today and will complete their P and D review papers.

Students worked on their letter P today and making sentences. They are to complete their sentence handout and their D review paper. There are two pages for the sentences and the first one was started.
The sentence for the first page is "My dog is brown."
The second sentence is "I see three kittens."
Try and have them read it back to you!

Students review the letter D sound and declarative sentences. Those are sentences that make a statement. They are to complete the D picture sort and the sentence rewrites. We did the first one as a class.

Students completed their assessment today in Open Court and will work on their high frequency word 'we' handout.

Students worked on syllables, nouns, and adjectives. They are to finish their noun/adjective worksheet by drawing pictures for the nouns described on their "On the farm I see..." papers. They are to reread their "The Tree" decodables.

Students reviewed rhymes and will complete their handout and read their decodable "Shapes" focusing on the high frequency word "I".

Today we had our first rounds of testing and to make it simpler, we did both Math and Reading today. Students tested from 8:15 am until 1:00 pm so there will be no homework today.
Wednesday and Thursday students will have homework so I will post that tomorrow.
Tonight have students read their decodables or review past assignments.

Students worked on letter sounds, uppercase/lowercase letters, and writing them. They will complete their packet handouts for E and F. 

Students worked on their letter C and D in class. They will complete the two page handout for homework tonight.

Today students work on their letter Aa and Bb recognition in class as well as their sounds. They will complete their letter tracing and word sorting activity tonight. 

Students will complete their lowercase tracing worksheet and the apple coloring worksheet where they will color lower and uppercase letters.

Students practiced uppercase letters so they will trace their uppercase letters and sort uppercase letters on a worksheet.

Students worked on uppercase and lowercase letters. They are to complete the upper and lowercase handout.

Students are to complete their cut and glue rhyming sheet. Be sure they say the picture out loud and listen to the ending sounds. 

Students worked on rhymes and how to identify them. They will complete their color rhyming worksheet.

Students reviewed the alphabet and we worked on our penmanship. Students are to trace the animals, letters, and the sentences.
