3rd Grade ELA Homework Week of 2/24-2/28/20

This weeks homework for 3B and 3C is our weekly Reading Log along with the following spelling words:

Homework Week of 2/3-2/7/20

Homework for ELA classes 3B and 3C is the nightly Reading Log completion of Monday-Thursday.  Completing the Friday section is extra credit. Also, our classes are to select a African American writer  to feature on the classroom bulletin board for Black History Month. Choices are Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Countee Cullen and Jean Toomer.  These writers were part of the Harlem Renaissance, which we studied last quarter. Please assist your in making an informed decision on their favorite writer. There are no spelling words this week.

This week’s reading selection: A New Life for Mei
Summary: Mei and Hong are Chinese immigrants who arrive in San Francisco in 1867. While Hong works far away
on the Transcontinental Railroad, Mei must support herself as a cook in a city where she is considered an outsider.
Essential Question: How did immigrants help build the country? How would you feel if you had to immigrate to an unfamiliar place?
DISCUSS with your child what it is like to be in a new place.
