Thursday - 9/3/20 Math and Science

  Hello -
We talked today about proper Zoom behavior - including remembering to MUTE yourself upon entering class, always being respectful of teachers and other students, remembering to raise your hand, waiting to be called upon.  Also we discussed that while normally I would expect students to let me know when they need the restroom - they should know the signal and be able to show me acknowledgement for them to leave the class.

Math we worked on Lesson 13 - Addition of three digit numbers, which includes regrouping.  Students have watched a video about knowing their multiples of 3 - which I have attached here.  HW - Written Practice - Problems 1-26.

Science - we watched a quick video about muscles and while it was detailed, i have attached specific terms to be added to their science notebook.
They also requested a copy of the video - attached  as well.
There is Activity on Muscles for Day 4 - a copy is attached hereto.

Thank you -

Distance Learning Packet (Week 4)

Due:

Monday 8/31/20 assignments - Math and Science

Math - we began with our Power Up - one page of addition, and a problem solving question.
We then moved on to a review of the Study Guide (packet - PowerUp and 20 questions) with students remembering the RUNE rule- Read, Understand, Notes, Evaluate for each problem.  We reviewed several problems in zoom class, and discussed how we can apply the RUNE to each problem; recognizing type of math, operations to use to solve, and ways to check our work with opposite operations.  (If it is an addition problem, we use subtraction to check our answer; etc.).  Homework is to complete the Study Guide - making sure to show their work, circling the answer clearly. Students should clearly state what type of problem it is - (we learned place value, sequencing, and skip counting as examples).
Science - today we are reviewing a Non-fiction text on Bones.  We have been studying the Human Body, and this was a good exercise to listen for details and terminology to add to our Science Notebooks.  We have several more paragraphs to finish, but it was fun to hear students' responses and even read the text.
Notes today - see terms page that should go in notebook. Attached is a great worksheet that demonstrates the parts of a leg bone.

Week 4 - Day 4 assignment math and science

8-27-20
Math - today we combined two lessons together because they are both basic foundation blocks -
(Lesson 9) Addition with Regrouping and
(Lesson 10) Recognizing and using odd and even numbers.
Students are responsible for notes in class on these two topics and also homework as follows:
Power Up lessons for both Lesson 9 and 10 (each has roughly 7-10 questions);
Written Practice problems - Chapter 9 - all the odd problems; Chapter 10 - all the even problems.
We watched a video to help solidify our understanding of the regrouping concept.
Video link -

Science - we continued our lessons regarding the Human Body - and learned about our muscles and how important they are - your skeleton cannot move without your muscles.
Students were to take notes from the lecture and video, but also students should be pulling terms out of the packet (muscle, stretch, relax, contract) and be confident in their understanding of how muscles work with the skeletal system to make our body move.
Video link - https://safeyoutube.net/w/QD2V  How our body moves
Homework - Activity 1.2 - Muscle Puzzle
ALSO -  thank you for those able to cut out and put together their skeletons!  There were many good skeletons and I hope everyone is able to complete this activity from the lesson on bones.
We had an extra surprise today - fellow teacher Mr. Garcia shared his human skull that he has a teaching prop. The students REALLY were excited to see a REAL skull and had great conversations about the bones, and what the skull does.  The skull was of a man, from Europe.  Thanks to Mr. Garcia for SHARING!!
