ELA - I sent home your child's spelling pre-test today with a copy of the correct words stapled to their paper.  Please help them learn these words.  If you know English, ask them to spell them.  If not, write the word 2 ways ( one correct and one incorrect, and have them see if they know the proper spelling). They can also  make flash cards and quiz themselves.  I've sent home the words with different sheets to learn them (vowel and consonants in different colors, squiggle writing, rainbow writing, etc). Now, they must just learn them.  I must move on with the curriculum.  Our test will be next Tuesday.

EL - High-Frequency word list went home. These are 15 words that we must recognize by sight and not sound out. Activities will commence tomorrow to help us commit these words to memory. There will be a test on them next week. We also did a vocab chart for the words APPROACHING and SCRAMBLING. We talked about their meaning, part of speech (noun, verb, etc), synonyms (words that mean about the same), antonyms (words that mean the opposite), the root of the word and different endings that can change the part of speech). If they did not finish the chart, they need to do that for homework. I sent home a book SAND, TAN HATS, AND A MAT for them to practice reading. Of course, your child must read 20 minutes and record it on the Reading Log for me to check tomorrow.
