accuracy - to compare a measurement to the actual value
assessment – the evaluation or estimation of the nature, quality, or validity of collected data or an experimental design
concept – a general idea derived or inferred from specific instances or observations
conclusion - a brief summary of how the evidence supports or disproves the hypothesis.
data – a group of measurements, facts or statistics collected from an experiment
derived data – data formed or developed using mathematical formulas
estimate - an approximate calculation of quantity
infer – to make a conclusion about an observation (information) based on logical reasoning
measurement – data collected using an instrument with a standard scale.
outlier - a value in a data set that is considerably larger or smaller than most of the other values
precision - to consistently get the same answer each time a measurement is taken
qualitative data - is data that describes the basic character or nature of dependent variable
quantitative data - relating to measuring, or measured by the quantity of something
range - the area of variation between upper and lower limits on a particular scale
trend line – a line drawn on a graph showing the relationship between two variables

constant variable – all variables that are kept the same in an experiment (often called control variables)
control group – is used as a benchmark to measure how much influence a variable has on a system
dependent variable (DV) – (responding) the variable used to measure change in an experiment; the variable believed to be influenced by the independent variable in a measurable way
evidence – the available facts indicating whether a hypothesis is valid
hypothesis – a prediction that answer a scientific question; a possible explanation that can be tested by comparison with scientific evidence
independent variable (IV) – (manipulated or experimental) the variable that is purposely changed in order to test the hypothesis; the variable believed to cause a change to the system by influencing another variable
observations – the process of seeing and hearing something carefully in order to gain information
